چکیده
Abstract Both anthropogenic actions and abiotic parameters, such as rainfall, temperature photoperiod, can affect fruit flower availability for animals, which consequently affects nutritional status thus animals’ health. Herein, we investigated whether factors are related to changes in that lead feeding behavior and, consequently, endoparasite load general health two groups of golden-headed lion tamarins (Leontopithecus chrysomelas) living degraded fragments Atlantic forest Southern Bahia, Brazil. We detected there was a high variation ripe fruits throughout the year, with lower occurring at end spring beginning summer. Despite this, no difference tamarins’ status, body mass blood counts between seasons. This is probably because during native scarcity, eat cultivated species, banana (Musa spp.) jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus). Temperature daylength were negatively correlated tamarin loads. Contrary our expectations, loads not linked scarcity consequent behavior. Nevertheless, found higher parasite diversity group occupied smallest home range. The smaller area available, greater contact parasites animal will have, they forced travel constantly along same routes forest, increasing infection risk re-infection rates. Our results highlight how associated environmental well need constant monitoring ensure effective conservation endangered tamarin.

Multiple breeding females in captive groups of golden-headed lion tamarins (Leontopithecus chrysomelas): causes and consequences.
In Callitrichidae, reproduction in subordinate females is generally inhibited but occurs in rare cases, possibly in association with the presence of an unrelated male, important food resources or low dispersal opportunities. This study investigates the occurrence of groups with multiple breeding females in captive golden-headed lion tamarins (Leontopithecus chrysomelas), the factors leading to ...
متن کاملCharacteristics of reproductive biology and proximate factors regulating seasonal breeding in captive golden-headed lion tamarins (Leontopithecus chrysomelas).
Reproduction is highly demanding in terms of energy expenditure, and the costs and benefits associated with postponing or investing in a reproductive effort are crucial determinants of an individual's fitness. Understanding the reproductive potential of a species under varying ecological conditions offers important insights into the dynamics of its social system. This study provides the first d...
متن کاملSynchronization of Ovarian Cycles Within and Between Social Groups in Golden Lion Tamarins (Leontopithecus rosalia)
Synchronization of ovarian events has been reported in a number of primate species, with the temporal resolution of synchrony ranging from the occurrence of seasonal breeding within the annual cycle to a close matching of ovarian events within a single ovarian cycle. However, ovarian synchrony has not been reported in a New World primate. The temporal association of ovarian events was examined ...
متن کاملIdentifying Important Forest Patches for the Long-term Persistence of the Endangered Golden-Headed Lion Tamarin (Leontopithecus chrysomelas)
As habitat for the golden-headed lion tamarin (GHLT; Leontopithecus chrysomelas) in Brazil’s Atlantic forest becomes smaller and more fragmented, remaining large forest patches may be critical to the persistence of the species. The objectives of our study were to identify the forest patch size that could support a viable population of GHLTs under a range of risk scenarios and to locate patches ...

We examined the effects of several variables on the number of live births in multiparous females in a wild population of golden lion tamarins (Leontopithecus rosalia). Independent variables included the number of infants born to a female the previous breeding season, the number of infants weaned the previous breeding season, the female's age and body mass, the number of adult males and helpers ...
